SAN FRANCISCO, United States (Reuters) – Analysts expect Apple this Monday to unveil new notebooks with more powerful processors at an event to be broadcast online.
Bloomberg has previously reported that Apple plans to release two new MacBook Pro models, with 14-inch and 16-inch screens. The company introduced some new laptop models last year that, for the first time, used their own chips. At the time, Apple said microprocessors would be incorporated into the company’s line of desktops and laptops over the next two years.
Until this Monday, Apple’s most powerful notebooks still rely on Intel chips. The company has already placed the internally designed M1 chip in some MacBooks and desktops, but larger models are expected to feature a second-generation processor.
The new chip, along with the impact of social isolation measures, sparked a boom in Apple computer sales during the pandemic. Area revenue grew 11% to $28.6 billion in Apple’s fiscal year 2020, even as iPhone revenue declined 3%.
The long-awaited release of a new generation MacBook Pro comes weeks after Apple revamped the lineup of iPhones, Apple Watches and iPads.
Some analysts believe Apple will also update AirPods wireless headphones on Monday. Complementary devices like AirPods tend to sell well during holiday shopping times and have become one of the company’s fastest-growing categories.
