Apple Event: What’s New in the News Today?

The wait is almost over. On Monday night at 7 p.m., Apple will raise the curtain on its new products with the “It’s Glowtime” event. Here’s a look at what’s likely to happen, based on the latest rumors.

iPhone 16: AI, Four Models, Bigger Screen, and Better Cameras

As per tradition, Apple is expected to unveil four new iPhone models: the standard iPhone, the Plus, the Pro, and the Pro Max. The Pro models could feature slightly larger displays thanks to smaller bezels, while all models are expected to get an Action button and a Capture button for quick access to the camera. On the photography front, the 5x Super Telephoto should also be included in the smaller model, while the non-Pro models will get a new camera arrangement to allow for 3D video. All models are expected to feature the new A18 chip, with the Pro models likely to have more cores and RAM, and possibly a 2TB storage option. The new chip will be the heart of Apple Intelligence, Apple’s artificial intelligence that debuts with iOS 18 and powers Siri with the help of ChatGPT. Finally, all Pro models are expected to get a USB-C port, an easier-to-replace battery, and new colors. Wi-Fi 7 could be reserved for the Pro models.

Apple Watch: Series 10 and Ultra 3

For Apple Watches, the Series 10 and Ultra 3 are expected. The Series 10 could have a larger display, similar to the Ultra, but keeping its design. There is also talk of new sensors, such as a blood pressure sensor, although it would probably only detect anomalies, not precise values. Little is known about the Ultra 3, but it could arrive in a new titanium color. The new Apple Watch SE is expected to be made of plastic, thus differentiating itself from the competition.

AirPods and iPad: one last thing

For AirPods, we’re expecting the AirPods 4, which could replace both of the current base models, the AirPods 2 and 3. There could be two models, perhaps one called the SE, and one of them could have active noise cancellation (ANC). There’s also some hope for the AirPods Max 2, but many say we’ll have to wait a little longer. Finally, there could be a surprise on the iPad front: a new iPad mini, with a more powerful chip that would allow it to run the new Apple Intelligence, could finally make its debut.
