Apple had considered something else as well.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claimed that Apple considered launching a cloud gaming service alongside Apple Arcade. Despite initial plans, Apple has decided to abandon this project for the time being, although the idea may be revived later.
For now, Apple wants to focus only on Apple Arcade, a platform that allows users to download exclusive mobile games directly to their devices, but it is not excluded that in the future it may resume the idea of a cloud gaming service with games available on the “cloud” without the need to take up space on the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac.
Gurman notes that Microsoft, Nvidia, Google and other companies have already launched gaming services that run in the cloud, in order to support a wider range of titles and provide a Netflix-style experience. Apple accepts this type of service only on the App Store, so much so that many companies have decided to opt for the web version on Safari rather than on an app that respects the limits imposed by Apple.
As we have said, this project has been shelved, but in the near future the company could resume it.
