On the A8 in Germany it is especially busy just before the border with Austria. Road users should expect a half-hour delay on the Rosenheim-Salzburg route, the traffic service said via Twitter.
The ANWB warned yesterday that it could get busy on the roads in Germany today. This is mainly due to holidaymakers returning home. The traffic jams are expected to arise both to the north and to the south.
It is also quite busy at the Gotthardtunnel in Switzerland, according to the ANWB. At around 08:15 this morning, the delay was already half an hour for traffic heading south.
In France it is also starting to get busier on the A7 towards the south, between Lyon and Marseille. For Valence, motorists should count on 45 minutes extra travel time.
Yesterday it was extremely busy on many holiday routes. At its peak around noon, there was 1090 kilometers of traffic jam on the French roads to the holiday areas. By the end of the afternoon most of the traffic jams had been resolved. The French traffic service advised not to hit the road on Saturday, but to leave on Sunday.
