After the announcement of approval of Pfizer’s vaccine, Commonwealth, against covid-19, for children aged 5 to 11, on Thursday (16), employees of Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) began to receive threats. On Sunday (19), the president of the regulatory body, Antonio Barra Torres, denounced the intimidations received. This Monday (20), new threats reached the regulatory agency’s servers.
President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) criticized Anvisa due to the decision to authorize vaccination against covid-19 in children from 5 to 11 years old, yesterday (19). Bolsonaro asked questions, without concrete data, about the supposed adverse effects of the immunizing agent. The president had already questioned the vaccine on Thursday (16).

“Children are very serious things. Possible future adverse effects are unknown. It’s unbelievable, sorry here, what Anvisa did. Unbelievable”, said Bolsonaro in an interview with VTV, an SBT affiliate, during a visit to Praia Grande, in São Paulo, on Sunday.
It is noteworthy that the vaccine developed by Pfizer has a different dosage and composition from those used in people over 12 years of age. In addition, Anvisa had external experts and carried out a study with 2,250 children, who were divided into two groups. The first received the vaccine and the other took a placebo, in two doses 21 days apart. The benefits of the immunizing agent outweighed the risks, according to the research, which showed that the vaccine is safe and effective.
After the announcement of new threats, released yesterday (19), by the president of Anvisa, Antonio Torres, the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, determined “the adoption of measures” to “ensure the protection” of the directors of Anvisa. However, there are no details of the measures so far.
Last Thursday, after the Anvisa announcement about the vaccines, Bolsonaro unofficially requested the name of those responsible for the approval of vaccines against covid-19 in children aged 5 to 11 years. Anvisa’s servers responded with a video, in which several technicians confirm their participation in the approval of the immunizing agent.
