Nearly 700 people participate in this solidarity test that opens routes, a category for couples and a hiking test
The Peñarrubia Lorca Trail is one of the most attractive events on the agenda of the Guadalentín Sports Games and on the local sports calendar. A total of 678 people took the start this Sunday in one of the tests included in this trail that on this day commemorated its tenth anniversary. It did so by launching a route with longer distances than in previous editions, including a more affordable hiking modality, and incorporating new forms of participation such as the mixed pairs competition.
At eight in the morning, from the door of the Pérez de Hita school in the La Viña neighborhood, the long-distance runners took the start. Ahead, 26 kilometers with a drop of 1,632 meters. A different and more demanding route than other editions. The first step was through the Castle of Lorca to then cross the spectacular Lorca landscapes of the Mirador del Valle, the Senda de La Ramblica, the Senda del Etiope, Las Viñas, Medio Celemín and return to the finish area again through the Mirador. Antonio Alfonso Ruiz Rojo from Club APAT-Cumpliendo Sueños was the first to complete the route in a time of 2 hours. 34min. 55sec. The second place finisher was Alfonso Soler Montero from Club Senderista La Carrasca, and the third was José Alberto Robles Amores, from Club Alhama Coym.
In the female category, the first classified was Elisabet López Auque from Club APAT-Cumpliendo Sueños with a time of 3h. 24min. 35sec. The second classified was Victoria Soler Giménez from Club Blade Runners Calasparra; and the third woman to make the podium in the long race was Beatriz Pérez Ceniza, from the Kampamento Base club. In the new pairs race category, the winning duo was formed by Carmen Ruiz and Carlos García, from the Track&Field Team Club. They made the tour in a time of 3h. 29min.
Short distance 15K
The second start of the X Peñarrubia Lorca Trail, the largest with 247 participants, took place at 08:30 am from the same place, the door of the educational center of La Viña. The first runner to cover the 15 kilometers with a drop of 940 meters was Juan de la Cruz Arcas from Lorca, from the La Carrasca Senderista Club. He did it in a time of 1h. 39min. 12sec. The second classified was Domingo Guevara López, also from La Carrasca; and the third, Roque Daniel Ruiz Lario from Club APAT-Fulfilling Dreams. In the female category, the first prize also stayed at home with Mari Huertas Miñarro from La Carrasca and a time of 2 hours. 04min. 26sec. After her entered, in second and third place, Veronica Serrano Martínez from Club Alhama Coym and María José Martínez Haro from CD MTB-Trail Pulpí. The winning couple in this distance was made up of Tania Salamanca and José Manuel Zamora.
In the hiking test, the participants covered 11 kilometers with a drop of 930 meters. His departure was the last but it was also highly supported, despite being the first edition. People of different ages participated guided by APAT volunteers. The first woman to cross the finish line was Antonia Trenza and the first man, Mario Cárceles. The youngest participant was Noa García, ten years old.
At the end of the race, in which the suffocating heat accompanied the runners, the awards ceremony was held in the different age categories and in the absolute category. Prizes were also awarded for passing through the Castle and to the club with the highest participation, which was the La Carrasca club.
There is an incentive in this test that goes beyond sports: its solidarity component. Do not forget that the proceeds go to the Association of Parents of the Lorca Early Care Center (APAT) so that they can continue working for the benefit of children. In exchange for the effort of the runners, APAT volunteers spent the whole day preparing the fun part of the race, which ended with a convivial meal.
