Antoine Griezmann leaves the French team. This morning the footballer issued a statement on his social networks announcing, by surprise, that he has decided to put an end to his international career.
“With a heart full of memories, I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolor adventure and see you soon,” he published along with a video of his best moments with France.
Antoine Griezmann debuted with the senior French team on March 5, 2014 in a friendly match against the Netherlands. Since then, the forward has played a total of 137 games with the blue shirt in which he has scored 44 goals and provided 38 assists, which makes him the highest assist in the history of the French national team and the third player with more matches played with France.
During these 10 years of international career with France, Griezmann has participated in three European Championships (2016 in which he was runner-up and top scorer of the tournament, 2020 and 2024) and three World Cups (2014, 2018 and 2022).
For Deschamps he has always been a fixed piece in his plans, a leader inside and outside the locker room, and with him he was proclaimed World Champion in Russia 2018, being also chosen the MVP of the final, and he also won the Nations League of the UEFA in 2021.
Now, at 33 years old, Griezmann closes that stage of his life that has given him so much success.
