Virtual tie for Antena 3 and La 1 in the monthly audience ranking for August. The Atresmedia channel (11,118% audience share) The private channel has reached the public channel on the last day of the month (11.089% share), with both channels achieving, thanks to rounding, 11.1%. In this way, the private channel prevents La 1 from leading for the third consecutive month, boosted this summer by the broadcast of the Euro Cup and the Olympic Games, and recovers its usual leadership. It has managed to cut more than 5 points from the public channel since the end of the Olympics: from 15.6% that La 1 had on August 11 to achieving a few hundredths more than it on the 31st.
Olympic sport on La 1 dominates the list of the 25 most watched programmes of the month: only the evening edition of Antena 3 Noticias, which has not stopped being the leader in the news programme category this summer, manages to occupy three of its positions. Another key to Antena 3’s leadership has been the solid data of daily programmes such as the evening series. Dreams of freedomwhich has not stopped broadcasting in the summer, usually achieving data above 13%, or its tireless contests The wheel of fortunewith astronomical figures, above 20%, and Pasapalabra.
On the other side of the coin, Telecinco continues to fall in spite of having brought forward several of its season premieres to August. It has fallen to its lowest point in history, with 8.6% of shareafter the failure of two of its big bets for the season, which are already on air: the afternoon show Jorge’s diary and Babylon Showthe space of Carlos Latre that will compete in the Prime Time access with the unbeatable The anthill (which has managed to lead its relevant time slot for several days last week despite airing reruns) and with the much-discussed premiere of David Broncano on La 1, which hits the screen on September 9.
One of Mediaset’s objectives for this complicated television season is to ensure that its secondary channel, Cuatro, surpasses La Sexta, its direct rival, in audiences. This has not happened for years. In August, both channels have obtained very similar results. While La Sexta has obtained a 5.4% share, Cuatro has achieved 5.2%. The reduction in distances is very striking since, in general, there is more than one point of difference in favour of Atresmedia.
Traditional television consumption fell in August to 145 minutes per person per day, 9% less than in 2023. It has been a month in which the three main channels have fallen in audiences compared to July, something that has benefited other secondary channels, such as Cuatro and La 2 and the DTT channels, which have managed to slightly increase their screen share in almost all cases. FDF (from the Mediaset group) is the leading DTT of the month, with 2.8% of sharefollowed by Energy (also from Mediaset) and Nova (Atresmedia), which are tied with 2.5% of the audience share. Even so, the Atresmedia group (24.3%) leads again in August over the Mediaset group (24%), despite having one less channel.
As for the regional channels, TVG has experienced a strong rise, adding 0.8 tenths to 8.7%. The return of football to its schedule has brought it joy, such as the broadcast of the Villarreal match against Celta de Vigo, which last Monday, August 26, obtained an outstanding 23.8% audience share. The support of its audience for the contest Catch me if you canwhich is also successful in its other regional versions, has helped this growth. The Galician channel has come third among the regional channels, only below TV3 (12.9%) and Aragón TV (10.4%).
