In the Russian Federation over the past day, 177,282 cases of COVID-19 were recorded, 18,032 people were hospitalized, which is 1.3% higher than on February 4. Such data leads operational headquarters on the fight against coronavirus on February 5.
The largest number of cases of infection was detected in Moscow – 22,444, in St. Petersburg – 21,780 and the Moscow region – 11,701. Over the past day, 714 people have died from the effects of the infection, 60,507 Russians have fully recovered.
In total, during the pandemic, 12,630,047 cases of coronavirus were recorded in all regions of the country. 334,753 people died, 10,509,688 patients overcame the infection.
Earlier in the day, Professor Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that the peak incidence of coronavirus in Russia would probably come in mid-February, and daily rates could be very high.
However, according to her, such a sharp rise in the incidence suggests that after the peak, the same sharp decline may begin.
On February 4, Doctor of Biology, Professor of the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University (USA) Ancha Baranova said that it is possible to become infected with COVID-19 again immediately after recovery. The specialist explained that this could happen if a person had Omicron BA.1, and then fell ill with another line – BA.2, which is otherwise called Stealth-Omicron.
A large-scale vaccination campaign continues in Russia. Citizens can get vaccinated for free. Six coronavirus drugs have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, KoviVac, EpiVacCorona-N, and the Sputnik M vaccine for adolescents.
