The event was registered by Palestine activists under the title “For a free Palestine – Victory belongs to justice”. Afterwards, there was criticism from several quarters, including the state’s anti-Semitism commissioner, Uwe Becker.
“On this day a year ago, the largest mass murder of Jews since the Shoah took place. Registering this rally on October 7th, the anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack, is an extreme provocation that we deeply condemn,” emphasize the mayor and the head of the public order department.
The ban order prohibits the rally and also explains that the cancellation also includes alternative events if they could endanger public safety. In the balance between granting the right to demonstrate and the aim of maintaining public safety and order by preventing criminal offenses and physical confrontations, priority should be given to the latter in this case.
