One of the most fascinating and interesting aspects of our planet is biodiversity, with the presence of animals and plants of all different kinds and species. Unfortunately, it is a distinctive feature of the Earth which is increasingly in decline, particularly due to various human activities, such as deforestation, hunting, pollution and climate change. Precisely for this reason, more and more species are at risk of becoming extinct.
Endangered animals: some of the most threatened and what to do
Among the 5 most endangered animal species we remember the following:
- There Bengal tiger: due to the loss of their habitat, poaching to obtain their fur and their bones used in traditional Asian medicine, these animals now number only less than 2500 individuals present in nature, a truly frighteningly low figure;
- The Javan rhinoceros: it is one of the rarest mammal species in the world, as it is estimated that fewer than 75 individuals exist. Again, habitat loss is one of the main threats to the continuity of this species, as is poaching to obtain their horn;
- The vaquita: it is a small porpoise that can only be found in the Gulf of California and it is the most threatened marine mammal in the world, given that it is estimated that fewer than 10 individuals exist. All of this was caused by illegal fishing;
- The mountain gorilla: its natural habitat is the mountains of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and is at risk of extinction due to poaching and various diseases. It is estimated that only fewer than 1000 individuals remain;
- L’Asian elephant: even in this last case one of the main causes is poaching, given that its ivory tusks are unfortunately in great demand. It is estimated that there now remain between 20,000 and 40,000 individuals located in Asia.
And these are just some of the animals at risk of extinction and precisely to prevent this trend from continuing we must try to protect and restore their natural habitats as much as possible, so that these species can survive in a comfortable environment. At the same time we should try to fight poachinggiven that it is one of the main causes of the disappearance of all these animals.
Furthermore, it is important educate and raise awareness among people on this topic and at the same time engage in programs aimed at reducing the negative human impact on their natural habitats, so as to be able to conserve fauna and even wild flora. And what do you think about it?
