A week The Animal Protection Directorate in Tampico attends 40 reports of dog abuse, in some cases they have applied sanctions.
The director in charge, José Ángel Morales Cisneros, said that animal abuse is not only exercised against street people, but with pets inside the house.
However, when they make the complaint, going to the place is a contraction because they do not always do it properly.
Therefore, he asked citizens to make correct use of the location at the time of reporting.
“We ask citizens to make their complaints by telephone and provide us with specific data, since we go to their homes but sometimes they do not coincide with that of the report,” he said.
Morales Cisneros, that the penalties for those who are caught abusing their pets are applied a fine equivalent to 10 to 70 UMAS.
“In the animal protection regulations it establishes a fine, later the folder is closed, if they do not report it again it is called recidivism that merits an arrest by the competent authority for the case of animal abuse,” he commented.
The head of Animal Protection pointed out that the sanctions or fines are applied in accordance with the regulations, and that each of those that have acted has nothing to do with the impositions of the agency, but rather that they comply with the guidelines because they must be taught to educate themselves and take care of animals.
“We are in the administrative process to continue imposing the corresponding sanctions, not because we want to annoy those citizens, but because in one way or another they must be taught to educate themselves and adopt a culture of caring for animals, if there is no time, or economic sustenance, nor space, it is better not to adopt or buy ”, he commented.
He indicated that if they repeat the abuse and report the situation again, it warrants arrest for the crime of “animal cruelty,” which can be consulted in the federal criminal code.
The sanctions depend on the seriousness of the matter, the regulation marks from 10 to 70 UMAS, which is equivalent to an economic value of 6,600 pesos, and unfortunately, the dogs are the most affected, he stressed.
