Angi, interview with Gabriele Ferrieri: the face of the Association that connects the stakeholders of the innovation ecosystem
The innovationhas always been a fundamental factor in the evolution of the human being. And since the dawn of time, man has never been satisfied. He always tried to improve, to transform for the better, something he already possessed. When the stone was no longer enough, they switched to copper. Then, looking more closely, it was clear that there was something better, like bronze. Up to the iron. And, with the same atavistic logic and desire for something new, man has continued to pursue the need to innovate up to the present day.
But what happens innovation? Certainly from many technicalities, but what is the key? The answer is simple, people. And this is where one of the faces of the Italian innovation world comes into play, a true representative of made in Italy.
Economist, graduate at the University of Roma Tre, winner of multiple scholarships for academic merits, as well as numerous awards and prizes won, Vice President and Managing Partner of the urban mobility platform iCarry Srl and, in addition to various other appointments, also Vice President with responsibility for innovation processes – Confassociations Communication & Public Affairs. In short, it could go on for hours. Here is the interview with Gabriele Ferrieri, President of the National Young Innovators Association (Angi).
President Ferrieri, how was Angi born and what is its purpose?
The association was born at the end of 2017. The goal that I wanted to turn into the heart of the project is to create a platform that would put all the stakeholders of the innovation ecosystem, in order to put the future of the new generations and the enhancement of the ecosystem at the center of the national and European political agenda innovative And digital.
The first steps ofAngi were moved in 2018, within the parliamentary groups’ hall at the Room. The project, in fact, was born and grows thanks to the support of numerous exponents of civil society and the ruling class, in order to create a link between start-ups, large companies, institutions and universities from the beginning, to compare, in fact , all the main interlocutors and to implement, through the support of Strasbourg and Brussels, actions that could support young people in the process of training and growth, as well as helping companies also at an international level.
A fundamental step in the history of our association was to regulate with a process of legislative innovation what was the regulation program of Italian digital system. With the support of Angi, the Ministry of Innovation, first with the Pisan minister and subsequently with Colao. Angi, in fact, has been able to become an institutional and leading player in the dialogue with political forces, always super partes in a technical and consultative way.
A demonstration of the fact that innovation is fundamental was certainly the pandemic. Those who, in fact, have been able to adapt to the turning point of the market following the arrival of the Covid he “survived”. Companies that have been able to innovate are at the forefront of those that have had a traditionalist approach, especially in the digital world. The mission of the Angi, therefore, proves to be fundamental in order to achieve those goals that have been set by Europe with the Next Generation Eu and that Italy must reach in the next three years.
With which entities have you interfaced?
First of all, the Angi deals with several aspects. From the realization of major events, seminars, advanced training programs with the support of the major universities in the area (we have contacts with over 60 universities), international missions abroad bringing our posters to European institutions and “Open Innovation“With the world of Corporate, creating a bridge between young people and the world of work thanks to our network of excellence in the area. But that is not all. The Angi talks with the Government providing bills related to innovation and, through a real one Observatory, analyzes and carries out analyzes on the economic and social progress of young people. All these data are published every six months on our website.
Speaking of the institutional world, our collaborations are among the most varied. Our ministries of reference are mainly that of Innovation, that of Ecological Transition and that of Youth with, therefore, their respective ministers Colao, Cingolani And Dadone. And then, Room And Senate they are our points of reference for parliamentary activity. Lombardy And Lazio, on the other hand, they are the two main Italian hemispheres of our world.
Other companies that are working intensively with us are the National Research Council, the Enea Agency And the Italian Institute of Technology which, this year, for the fourth edition of Angi Award, he “lent” one of his best known faces, that is Arianna Traviglia, at the head of the Center for Cultural Heritage Technology from Venice. Finally, there is no shortage of highly topical events. For example, the Young Ambassador Society and the B20, the engagement groups with which the Farnesina worked to present proposals during the activity of G20.
Tell me about the Angi Award
To accomplish the Prize, we imagined being able to give meritocratic recognition in collaboration with the institutions. Since the first edition we have had the patronage of Presidency of the Council, of the European Parliament and of European Commission in being able to give a voice to young people on the motivational profile, with the ultimate aim of giving a “shock” to take control of their own future.
We had the pleasure of getting in touch with the entourage of Bebe Vio, which has chosen to become the voice of the first edition of the event. Bebe Vio, through her “strength”, gave a motivation to all of us. With her, the Angi Award had a wonderful start.
The second year, the Award hosted Valeria Cagnina who, barely 18, was already a robotics genius, among the 50 most influential women in the world. The third year, however, the guest of honor was Alessia Bonari, nurse symbol of the fight against Covid in the first period of the pandemic.
This year, where the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s anniversary was celebrated, we hosted the Prize Angi within the Ara Pacis Museum, among the best European stages to tell these stories of excellence, trying to support the concepts of innovation and culture for the relaunch of Italy.
President, what were the posters that the Angi presented to the institutions?
That was the first manifesto of Innovation, delivered into the hands of the Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council for Technological Innovation and the Digital Transition Take it on Messina, to the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Todde and to the undersecretary of state at the ministry of ecological transition fountain, with a handbook of proposals in which only by investing in the production excellence of the digital system will it be possible to enhance the Recovery Plan and Resilience, also dialoguing with start-ups, promoting an advisory body of these to finance their projects but also insert a Golden Power to safeguard the most interesting projects which, often and willingly, are acquired “on the sly” by the great international giants in terms of know-how and patents. Also for this reason, many young people prefer to enhance their projects abroad rather than here in Italy.
The second, also given the hacker attacks to which we are exposed, was a “spin-off” of the manifesto linked to cybersecurity. The aim was to make a contribution on the main issues related to critical and potentially damaging websites of the state. But it is no coincidence that the Angi has brought the topic of cybersecurity. In fact, even in the Pnrr, IT security is a key point of Industry 4.0. The goal is, therefore, to win the challenge that the “4.0 Society” now imposes on us.
