A judge in the US state of New York has dismissed a sexual misconduct charge against former Governor Andrew Cuomo. That reports the AP news agency Friday. The decision follows prosecutors’ statement earlier this week that they saw insufficient evidence to support the charges against Brittany Commisso, a former Cuomo employee.
Commisso had gone to police with the complaint that Cuomo had groped her in his official residence during his governorship. But prosecutor Jennifer McCanney said on Tuesday that the available evidence is not sufficient to reach a successful conviction. The judge endorses that conclusion.

In August, New York Attorney General Letitia James released a report concluding that Cuomo had sexually assaulted 11 women, including former staffers. According to the AP, Commisso’s complaint was the most important. Cuomo himself speaks of a political smear campaign.
Democrat Cuomo resigned as governor of New York after the release of the report under pressure from President Joe Biden and other leaders within his party. There are other cases pending against him, but so far all charges are dropped one by one. For example, at the end of December, the prosecutor in Westchester County said he had “convincing evidence” that he touched two women inappropriately, but that it was not a criminal offense.
Cuomo is also accused of manipulating numbers of corona deaths during his governorship. The investigation is still ongoing.
