The owner of Andretti Autosport postpones his arrival in the World Championship: “There was no possibility of taking control of the F1 team, it was not the right condition. We will look around for new opportunities”
“Blurred one step away from the finish line”: this is how Michael Andretti defined the negotiation to acquire the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1, but also confirmed Andretti Autosport’s willingness to try to take over another World Championship team. The rumors of a negotiation between the son of the former F1 world champion Mario and Sauber had spread in the days preceding the Austin GP then won by Max Verstappen.
f1 not for now

“The possibilities collapsed in the final stages of the deal,” explained Michael Andretti; “I have always said that the deal would be done under the right conditions, and the conditions were simply not the right ones, so we will look around for new opportunities” explained the number 1 of Andretti Autosport, who manages teams in Indycar, Formula E and Extreme E. Basically, Andretti’s investment would not have coincided with the control of the team, a fundamental condition for the former driver, champion in Formula Cart in 1991. So no F1 at the moment not even for Colton Hertha, the 21-year-old under contract with Andretti who would have a guaranteed seat if the American team entered F1.
