Andrea Montenegro returned to the cinema through the comedy Igualita a mí, playing Elena, a stylist, single mother with a teenage daughter, who ends up romantically involved with the protagonist (Carlos Alcántara). “I focused on my own experience as a single mom that I am. It was resorting to my own feelings, to what happened when I believed that this is not the time to meet someone and make use of this good sense that one acquires over the years and with which I began to move in life the day I I realized that my decisions did not affect only me, ”says the actress through Zoom from Barichara, the Colombian city where she has lived for a few years with her two youngest children.
Montenegro assures that he thought of Elena as “that woman willing to support her daughter and her business, something that makes her independent. I also imagined an Elena with commitments to the bank, to the rent, a woman who doesn’t have time to give herself permission to try to have a boyfriend. That is why it has never been considered whether Fredy (Alcántara) likes it or not, ”she adds.
Regarding the dynamic with Carlos Alcántara, he affirms that it came naturally, since it is not the first time that they have worked together. “With Carlos we have a lot of confidence. I arrived in Lima and the next day we recorded the final scene of the kiss and it was very funny because it was like ‘hey, wait, I’ll buy some gum, because I just smoked a cigarette’ and Carlos doesn’t smoke. It was very funny, it is very nice to work with him because he is absolutely creative. In fact, the background of the characters and their details are created by us. Carlos has humor on the surface, he wanted to see himself ridiculed, boyish and accentuate this man who is internally, an adolescent. I understand his way of working and mine, which is a little more internal, I trust his gaze and it allows me to work on the emotional part”.
For some years now, the actress has devoted herself entirely to her children, in addition to teaching yoga classes and painting pictures. “I have a lifestyle of a town of 7,000 inhabitants in Colombia, where there is sun all the time and it allows me to contact the beauty of life, where I don’t have to worry about anything, without having to work so much. I live in service to my children. I was always of the idea that they grow up with a mother present. Muriel (16) is finishing school, studying Colombian gastronomy, she is also already working. Amaru is 9 years old and we continue to do home school. For my part, I continue with my painting, with the intention of exhibiting, I have an Instagram where you can see them and if a buyer appears, fine, ”she says.
However, he admits that he misses acting. “I miss acting on TV and in movies because it has been my cradle, I miss it a lot, but time after time. As much as I feel like a painter to a great extent, in my heart I feel that I am an actress first and if I could choose in this life, obviously I would stay making movies, not only in Peru but anywhere. Miki Valladares (Tondero) calls me every time there is a project that suits me. But I don’t feel free at all. My fantasy is to be autonomous, although I will never be completely, until my children are totally independent, but I do want to see myself a little more like Elena. Therefore, perhaps Elena reflects me to some extent.
