James in Lakers-Memphis shared the field with Ziaire Williams, in high school with his eldest son
When he saw him on the pitch with the number 8 Memphis shirt, in Sunday’s match against the Lakers at the Staples Center, LeBron could hardly believe his eyes. “I looked around, shook my head and wondered if this was really happening,” said King James. What he struggled to believe was that the opponent on the pitch with the number 8 shirt was Ziaire Williams, the former teammate of LeBron James Jr, the eldest son of the Lakers star.

LeBron James will turn 37 on December 30th. Williams blew 20 candles on the cake on September 12, a couple of weeks before starting the first NBA season of his career. A 203-centimeter wing, Williams completed high school at Sierra Canyon, the same school where James enrolled his eldest son (born 2004) when he moved to Los Angeles. Williams left her in 2020, sixth-best high school senior to the last year according to the ESN ranking, and spent his year at Stanford at 10.7 points on average, before declaring himself for the NBA Draft. He chose New Orleans with the 10th call overall, but then sold him to Memphis as part of the deal that brought Steven Adams to the Grizzlies. Williams played in all three 2021-22 Memphis games, amassing 51 minutes overall and scoring 12 points.
Surreal

LeBron has often been seen in Sierra Canyon since his son was at that school. He mentored the boys, showed up at games, trained with them to the delight of everyone, including Williams, who dream of imitating the king one day. He, LeBron, had seen something special about his opponent in Lakers-Memphis. “I trained with them, I saw them play and I always understood that Ziaire was talented – said James after Williams ‘match, on the field for 18’ and the author of a three-point field goal -. However, it is strange to see him in the NBA. Being on the pitch with him was really surreal: I mean, he was at school with my son, I know that boy. But I’m happy for him. Too bad we didn’t get to talk to us, the game was too tight (the Lakers won 121-118, ed). Maybe it would have been too strange ”. Or maybe LeBron has just made the dress rehearsal for the last milestone he has set for his career: playing with his son Bronnie, Williams’ former partner, expected among the pros not before 2023. Two generations of James together on the same parquet it would be more than “surreal”.
