The Minister of Environment in the Lebanese caretaker government, Nasser Yassin, announced today, Wednesday, that the government decided to demolish the remaining northern silos in the port of Beirut.
This came during a meeting of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, today, Wednesday, with Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin and MPs Najat Aoun Saliba and Melhem Khalaf in the government palace.
The meeting discussed solutions that can stop the burning of grain and deal with the northern silos.
Yassin said, “It was agreed to consider quickly and technically the demolition of the northern wheat silos in the port of Beirut and the protection and strengthening of the southern silos.”
He added: “When demolishing the northern silos in a technical way, we can clean all the backfill and grain, and prevent the source of burning that emits pollutants and affects people’s health, even if this combustion takes place automatically. After cleaning these rubble, we can focus on the southern silos and work to strengthen them.” .
