An unknown person with a knife attacked a politician of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in Mannheim, where similar cases had previously occurred. This is reported by the German portal Focus Online.
“According to the AfD district association, the incident took place near the market square. The party candidate caught the man tearing up the posters in the act. When he encountered the man, he attacked him and stabbed him. The AfD politician is still in the hospital, but received only cuts,” the material notes.
Police confirmed the incident and began an investigation. AfD officials say the attacker was a “left-wing extremist.” The information has not been confirmed at this time.
Earlier, AfD MP Martin Schmidt was injured by a glass ashtray. The alleged perpetrator is a 52-year-old man who said he “acted out of political animosity.” He considered himself a supporter of left-wing ideas.
