Utopia 56 attributes to the governments of both countries the crimes of involuntary manslaughter and “omission of the duty of relief due to the sinking of a boat in the English Channel
The French NGO Utopia 56 has lodged a complaint against the French and UK authorities for “involuntary manslaughter” and “failure to rescue duty” following the death in November of 27 migrants in a shipwreck near Calais, in the north-east of the country Gallic, when they tried to enter the UK illegally. This non-fighting association blames the prefect of the English Channel and the North Sea, the director of the Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Centers (Cross) of Gris Nez and the director of the British coast guard service.
A fishing boat alerted to the presence of several castaways at sea, but only two could be rescued alive. According to the survivors and other witnesses, the migrants made “emergency calls to rescue services”, but no one came to help them. “First we asked the French to help us because our engine was not working. We gave them our location and they replied that it was British waters. So we called the English and they referred us to the French police, “Mohammed Skeha Ahmad explained to the press, who managed to be rescued.
Utopia 56 trusts that “the circumstances will be clarified”, since there is a duty of “transparency and truth” before the victims and their families.
