An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 shook the Fukushima prefecture on August 18in northeastern Japan, with no tsunami alert activated and no significant damage reported at the moment.
The earthquake took place at 02:46 pm, local time this Thursday (6:46 GMT), with an epicenter about 60 kilometers deep off the coast of Fukushima.according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The earthquake reached level four on the Japanese scale in that prefecture, out of a maximum of seven and focused on measuring the agitation on the surface and in the affected areas rather than on the intensity of the tremor, and it was also noted in other regions of the eastern coast and the north and center of the country.
At the moment, local authorities have not reported any damage in the two prefectures most affected by the earthquake, Fukushima and Miyagi.

The energy company Tokyo Electric Power is analyzing the situation in nuclear power plants located in Fukushima, including the plant that suffered an accident in 2011.
Fukushima prefecture has been shaken in recent months by several earthquakes of considerable intensity, including one on March 16, of magnitude 7.4 and level 6 higher on the Japanese scale.
That strong earthquake, the largest in the area since the devastating tsunami and nuclear catastrophe of 2011, left four dead and more than 200 injured, in addition to damage to infrastructure, shops and homes, and power cuts in much of the archipelago. -including Tokyo- in the following weeks.
Japan sits on the so-called Ring of Fire, one of the most active seismic zones in the world, and suffers from earthquakes relatively frequently, so its infrastructure is specially designed to withstand tremors.
