Russian developers will create an application store for iOS. The authors of the project reported this news.
“We plan to create a Russian application store for the iOS operating system – NashStore,” Arseny Shcheltsin, general director of the Digital Platforms ANO, told Izvestia.
At the same time, he noted that the functionality allowing the launch of alternative marketplaces on Apple smartphones has so far been officially confirmed only in the European Union.
“Nevertheless, regional restrictions can be circumvented if such stores do not become available in the Russian Federation,” Arseny Shcheltsin emphasized.
In particular, when activating an iOS device, users always select the country where the gadget will be used. And if a person activates an iPhone in the EU, but selects the country “Russia,” then he is shown a screen from the Russian list of applications for pre-installation, although these standards do not apply in the European Union. Exactly the same story is possible with marketplaces – in order for them to work on the territory of the Russian Federation, it will be necessary to choose one of the European countries as a region, he noted.
“Selecting another region may give the user access to the “neighboring” application store, but if he needs to download applications for the Russian Federation, he will again have to go into the settings. At the same time, when changing the region, for example, music or movies may not work in Russian applications,” noted tech observer Marina Efendieva.
In Europe, alternative app stores will appear in March. This became possible due to the EU Digital Markets Law, which obliges Apple to allow users to install alternative stores.
