Jordan’s King Abdullah II and US President Joe Biden affirmed Iraq’s support, in a tripartite phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, during which they discussed “regional developments,” according to a statement issued by the White House.
The statement added that Biden affirmed the United States’ commitment to the strategic framework agreement with Iraq, and praised the prime minister’s efforts to enhance Iraq’s sovereignty and independence. He continued, “The two leaders renewed their commitment to ensuring that the terrorist organization ISIS will not be able to threaten the Iraqi people again or regional and international security.”
The statement stated, “President Biden seized the opportunity of the Jordanian monarch’s visit to the White House to invite him to join the call, and King Abdullah II affirmed Jordan’s support for Iraq, including through joint strategic infrastructure projects.” According to the statement, the two sides discussed the prime minister’s economic work program to ensure an Iraqi economy that serves the Iraqis, “and this is a policy supported by the United States.” The US President referred to the upcoming visit of Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to the United States, next week, which aims to discuss economic issues in Iraq in the first place.
During their meeting at the White House, King Abdullah II discussed with Biden “mechanisms of cooperation between Jordan and the United States to enhance stability in the region and reduce escalation in the Palestinian territories.”
The Jordanian News Agency, Petra, said that King Abdullah II stressed, during the meeting, in the presence of Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, the Jordanian Crown Prince, the “leading role of the United States in pushing for calm, and finding a real political horizon to preserve the chances of achieving a comprehensive and just peace based on peace.” The two-state solution.
The King of Jordan stressed “the need to stop the Israeli steps that undermine the two-state solution and push towards further aggravation,” stressing “the importance of intensifying efforts to support the Palestinian people in obtaining their just and legitimate rights, and in establishing their independent state, on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.” To live in peace and security alongside Israel.
The US President reaffirmed his support for the two-state solution, pointing to “the vital role of the Hashemite Custodianship over the holy places in Jerusalem, and stressed the need to preserve the historical status quo in the Noble Sanctuary.” And she continued, “The two leaders discussed the depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries, and their keenness to continue consolidating it in various fields.”
The Jordanian monarch expressed his appreciation for the depth of friendship between the two countries and peoples, praising the continuous support provided by the United States to the Kingdom in various fields.
The White House confirmed in a statement that US Vice President Kamala Harris, during a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah, expressed her concern about the recent violence and tension in Jerusalem and the West Bank, and stressed the importance of preserving the status quo on the Al-Aqsa Mosque campus. It praised the important role Jordan plays as custodian of Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem and as a stabilizing force.
