They leave one of the drainage mechanisms of the infrastructure inoperative, which must be replaced
The Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) is going to undertake the work to replace one of the drainage mechanisms of the Santomera reservoir dam as a result of an act of vandalism that has left it inoperative. For this reason, the basin authority has declared Scenario 1 mandatory against possible floods, which refers to cases in which there is no threat or risk to assets and/or the population and in which it is simply announced that a series of planned corrective measures will be taken.
The work has been declared an emergency with a budget of 1,540,000 euros, with which the intermediate outlets of the Santomera dam will be replaced to their original situation in the intermediate intake of the reservoir dam.
It should be noted that the reservoir is currently at 14% of its capacity, with only 3.58 Hm3, which gives it more than enough security protection in the event of an unforeseen flood. Even so, if this phenomenon occurs, the rest of the spillways are fully operational and would begin to act. That is why the CHS guarantees the structural stability of the dam.
These actions and measures for these cases are included in the Emergency Plan of the Dam and in which the technicians of the basin agency have already started the work so that the affected mechanism can be solved safely for the operators and for the population or their assets.
