President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that his government is taking into account the recommendations of national and international health organizations, when analyzing vaccination against covid-19 for children under 18 years of age.
During La Mañanera from Culiacán, he pointed out that the laboratories that produce the vaccines have pressed for the acquisition of biologicals for minors, but the president said that this insistence may have economic intentions.
“In the case of children under 18 we are seeing the recommendations in international health organizations, the laboratories are pressing, they would like third and fourth and fifth doses,” he said.
López Obrador indicated that, although there is a moderate number of infections in the country caused by the summer holidays, there are fewer deaths from the virus, since a large part of the population is immunized; “It is proven that if you have the vaccine, you protect yourself,” he stressed.
“We are going to continue forward, the commitment we have is to end in October vaccinating at least one dose to all adults over 18 years of age. This is going to protect us a lot, “he added.
In addition, he stressed that they seek to continue with the current vaccination plan, since it is the one that “has given us results”, to the point that Mexico is one of the countries with the most vaccines applied, since more than 51 percent of the adult population already has at least one dose.
“Mexico is not among the first countries with the greatest severity due to the pandemic, (…) in America, Mexico is in sixth place in deaths per inhabitant and in vaccination we are in second place,” he commented.
