Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei wrote on the X platform that Araqchi and Sheikh Mohammed, who also holds the position of Qatari Prime Minister, held “important consultations regarding the regional situation and bilateral relations.”
He added, “All countries in the region must make every effort to spare the region from an imposed catastrophe by stopping the genocide in Gaza and ending the aggression of the occupying entity against Lebanon.”
A source familiar with the meetings told Agence France-Presse, on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, that Araqchi will hold meetings with Qatari officials regarding Gaza, Lebanon, and efforts to reduce regional tensions.
Araqchi’s visit to Qatar comes amid Israel’s threat to respond to Iran’s launch on October 1 of about two hundred missiles at Israel, in a move it described as a retaliatory response to the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah in the southern suburb of Beirut by an Israeli strike on September 27, and Ismail Haniyeh, president The Hamas political office in Tehran in July in an operation attributed to Israel.
Israel has intensified its air strikes on various Hezbollah targets in Lebanon since September 23, causing major destruction and displacement, and announced the start of ground operations on the border in southern Lebanon on September 30.
