Flightradar: US Air Force drone disappeared from radar over the Black Sea near Crimea
A US Air Force RQ-4B Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) disappeared from radar while on a reconnaissance mission over the Black Sea near Crimea. About this “Lente.ru” became known from data from the aircraft monitoring portal Flightradar.
According to the portal, a strategic reconnaissance drone with tail number 10-2045 and call sign FORTE12 took off from the Sigonella airbase, Italy, proceeded through Bulgarian airspace and then set a course towards the Black Sea for the purpose of long-range reconnaissance of the Northern Military District zone and the territory of the Crimean Peninsula.
Presumably, the reason for the disappearance of the drone from the monitoring system is due to the fact that, for camouflage purposes, the drone operators turned off the identification transponders. Thus, the UAV itself can only be detected using radar systems, including military ones.
On May 19, an identical UAV was also spotted in the Black Sea. Global Hawk took off the day before at about 22:00 Moscow time from the NATO naval air base Sigonella in Sicily. For several hours he cruised over neutral airspace for reconnaissance purposes.
