The funds allocated under this provision are supposed to allow Kiev to protect the country’s electric grid, counter cyber attacks and acquire defensive weapons.
This massive financial package allocates $2.6 billion in humanitarian aid, and more than $1 billion to support Ukrainian refugees who have fled their country because of the war.
Aid to Ukraine was included in the US federal budget for 2022, which amounted to 1,500 billion dollars.
The Senate must vote in the coming days on this budget.
On Thursday, the US Commerce Department said the United States is speeding up the processing of Americans’ requests to export firearms and ammunition to Ukraine.
The US Commerce Department said it had restricted exports to Russia to “impair its ability to pursue a military offensive” and that Americans should review regulations to see if a license is required to export certain firearms to Ukraine.
“The ministry is speeding up the process of processing requests to export firearms and ammunition to Ukraine under existing processes and authorities,” a ministry spokesman said.
