The Mini PC manufacturer AOOSTAR continues to reveal interesting upcoming news. In addition to having talked about the updated version of the Radeon RX 7650 XT mobile graphics card, the company has anticipated the arrival of the new generation Ryzen processors based on the Zen 5 architecture. But there is a “but”: AOOSTAR probably refers at AMD Strix “Zen 5” APUas their Mini PCs use mobile chips and not desktop processors.
However, we can expect the arrival of next-generation Ryzen desktop processors with Zen 5 architecture around the same time, on socket AM5. According to what AOOSTAR reports, the launch of AMD Ryzen “Zen 5” processors is scheduled for August, while the first Mini PCs equipped with the Strix line will arrive by October, therefore positioning themselves at the beginning of Q4 2024. We can expect compact and powerful solutions equipped with the latest chips.
AMD’s Strix APUs should represent a significant upgrade in every way. It is expected to feature a new Zen 5 architecture CPU core, a brand new RDNA 3+ iGPU architecture, and the latest XDNA 2 AI NPU, which is expected to offer three times the performance of Hawk Point (around 45 TOPS).
AMD’s Strix APUs will be available in two variants: one with a standard monolithic design with 12 CPU cores and 16 RDNA 3+ iGPU cores. The top of the range model, Strix Halo, will instead come with a monolithic design with up to 16 CPU cores and up to 40 RDNA 3+ iGPU cores. This latest version isn’t expected before late 2024 or early 2025, so the first AMD Zen 5 Mini PCs should feature standard Strix chips.
As for AMD Ryzen desktop CPUs, their arrival is confirmed and this can be seen from the growing compatibility of AM5 motherboards with the latest AGESA BIOS. Some motherboard makers have even teased Ryzen 9000 branding for these chips, but just like AMD’s Strix line, there could be last-minute changes on the desktop front as well. AMD’s keynote at Computex 2024 will certainly be full of announcements on Zen 5 products, while we can expect an even greater focus during the next edition of Hot Chips, scheduled for August.
