Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk urged not to wait for help from Berlin under the new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. About this he stated in an interview with ZN.UA.
In his opinion, Ukraine will not wait for the provision of weapons from Berlin. He stated that this position, “from a moral point of view does not stand up to criticism”, will be retained by the German authorities.
Melnyk noted that the Ukrainian authorities did not receive official explanations for such a decision from the previous government of Germany.
Informally, signals were transmitted that such weapons could potentially provoke further military escalation on the contact line and lead to larger-scale clashes.
Miller said that Kiev still hopes to change the position of official Berlin on the issue of providing weapons. He believes that this would strengthen the position of the FRG and to advance the mediation mission, which today is “at a dead end.”
Assistance to Ukraine
In October, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that it had received the first batch of additional military assistance from the United States to ensure the country’s security. Washington promised Kiev money and various equipment.

The ministry said that in addition to the previously agreed amount of $ 250 million, the Ukrainian side should receive medical equipment, weapons, ammunition, precision weapons and radar surveillance equipment for another $ 60 million.
Later it became known that the second batch of military aid from the US government for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), stationed in Donbass, arrived in Kiev.
Also in October, the UK began negotiations for the first time with Ukraine on the supply of weapons, in particular Brimstone missiles. According to The Times, the discussion of the supplies took place amid speculation that Moscow might try to use the gas crisis to seize Ukrainian territory. Sources of the newspaper reported that Britain could supply Ukraine with surface-to-surface missiles for boats and aircraft.
In November, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the defense principles of the military alliance did not apply to Ukraine, but Brussels was providing assistance to Kiev on a partnership basis.

According to him, NATO member countries provide the Ukrainian side with various military and logistical capabilities, weapons, and also provide assistance in the training of the military.
The administration of United States President Joe Biden also discussed sending military advisers to Ukraine.
Fears of Ukraine
Kirill Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, said that if Western countries do not support Ukraine, then the country will not have enough of its own military resources to repel a full-scale attack from Russia.
Budanov believes that the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will not be able to quickly coordinate the defense, and the military from Russia will destroy Ukrainian ammunition depots and troops in the trenches with the help of aviation and missiles.
They [украинские военнослужащие] will stand as long as there are cartridges. They will be able to use what they have in their hands, but believe me, there is no army in the world that could withstand without the delivery of reserves.
Also, Budanov is sure that Russia plans to attack Ukraine and is pulling troops to the border for this. In his opinion, a series of psychological operations will follow before the invasion, which are already being carried out with the aim of destabilizing Ukraine and undermining its defenses.
In addition, he noted that the estimates of the intelligence services of the United States and Ukraine regarding the timing of the attack by Russia are very similar.
They want to stir up unrest through protests and rallies that show that the people are against the government. They want to make the situation inside the country more and more dangerous and difficult and create a situation in which we must change the government. If this does not work out, the military will take over.
Russia’s response
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stressed that statements about the invasion are whipping up hysteria and provocation. He called this behavior “not entirely logical and not entirely decent.” According to him, hysteria is being whipped up artificially.
Peskov believes that a targeted information campaign is underway, for which news agencies and some American newspapers are used. He said that “Kiev itself is building up its forces,” in addition, they help him to do this by supplying a significant amount of weapons, including modern and high-tech ones. According to him, the Russian authorities are watching this with great concern.
Diplomat Konstantin Vorontsov, in turn, said that there was no evidence of the presence of Russian troops in Ukraine. “As for the ongoing attempts to ascribe to us military intervention in the events in southeastern Ukraine, we have not been presented with a single convincing evidence of the presence of Russian troops there simply because they are not there and never were,” the diplomat said.
