The allied forces of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are attacking Lysichansk and advancing inside the city from four directions, said on Friday, July 1, the republic’s ambassador to Moscow, Rodion Miroshnik.
“In the suburbs of Lisichansk from the south and east, most of the settlements are already under the control of the allied forces of the LPR and Russia. Today they were completing a cleanup at the Lisichansk Oil Refinery (NPZ) in Verkhnekamenka, nearby Zolotorevka and the southern suburb of Lisichansk, Belaya Gora. The situation there is clear and indisputable in favor of the liberators,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Miroshnik added that the allied troops cleared the quarters adjacent to the Lisichansk Rubber Products Plant (RTI). From the side of the glass factory “Proletariy” the offensive is actively developing.
“On the right bank of the Seversky Donets, after yesterday’s crossing of the allied units, a wide bridgehead was formed with a center in the area of the helipad. From there, with a fairly wide front, they move in a south-westerly direction towards the city center. Another group of allied troops is moving to meet them from the concrete goods section and the Melnikov mine, squeezing the vise around the central regions of Lisichansk, ”he described the situation.
The LPR ambassador clarified: the allies discovered fortified areas with underground passages, where Ukrainian militants are still hiding, in the city of Novodruzhesk. Massed artillery strikes are being carried out on their positions.
According to Miroshnik, the Lisichansk group of nationalists is being smashed from four directions, pushing it away from large urban industrial zones.
On June 30, Assistant Minister of the Interior of the LPR Vitaly Kiselev confirmed the information about the control of the allied forces over 50% of the territory of Lisichansk. According to him, only a few days remained before the complete liberation of the city. At the same time, he did not rule out that in the future the nationalists of Ukraine would begin to strike at Lisichansk from other cities.
On June 26, Miroshnik reported on the advance of the LPR forces from the south towards Lisichansk and their presence in the industrial zone. On June 25, it became known that the allied forces of the LPR and the Russian Federation had liberated a plant and a mine in the city. On June 24, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the blockade of Lisichansk from the south. When blocking the city from the south, 11 settlements were also liberated.
Russia continues the special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. A few days earlier, the situation in the region escalated significantly due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and also turned to Moscow for help. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR.
