Amazon, in 6 years, has taken over the entire “parcel” market. 4 to 66%
Amazon it “killed” the competition. Jeff Bezos’ group in Italy dominates the shipping market and the data is impressive. For three years, the Communications Authority – reads the Fatto Quotidiano – has been monitoring the postal services market in Italy, in 2020 it handled approximately 850 million parcels and generated an estimated turnover of between 5 and 6 billion euros. In recent years, followed slowly by the Authority, the giant Amazon has not only taken a great chunk of online sales, but – thanks to the vertical integration with its delivery service and the pressure it can do on competitors and companies sellers, even the parcel market.
The Agcom investigation – continues the Fact – shows, in fact, that competition problems are present only in the home delivery sector and that these problems coincide with the presence of the US company on the market. Traditionally B2C was divided into deffered (deferred) and “express” deliveries: a distinction that no longer makes sense, the average delivery, even among deffered ones, is 1-2 working days. In the segment of home-delivered packages from businesses, Amazon’s growth is incredible: it is estimated to be worth around 4% in 2016, 20% in 2018, it was already 36% last year, and is expected to rise again to 51%. this year and at 66% in 2022 (a couple of billion of revenues, therefore, brought to the balance sheet of the parent company only by the Amazon Italia Transport division).
