Amazon Games has opened its first development studio in Europewith the foundation of Amazon Games Bucharesta team based in the Romanian city and the company’s first step into the European video game development environment.
The Bucharest offices are therefore added to the Amazon Games family which already has several bases but practically all of them in North America: Montreal, San Diego, Orange County and Seattle are in fact the other videogame divisions of the e-commerce and entertainment giant , now also launched in the gaming sector.
According to what was reported by Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games, the expansion to Bucharest would be a “natural step in the expansion of our portfolio”, even if there is still no precise information on the projects that will be worked on within the new ones offices.
The first Amazon studio in Europe is in Bucharest
He was placed at the head of the new team Cristian Panawho has considerable experience in the area having previously led Ubisoft Bucharest and having worked on well-known series such as Far Cry and The Division.
The latter reported that Amazon Games is “actively building future projects according to an exciting schedule”, but without going into much detail about the new titles being worked on by the various Amazon teams.
We remember, however, that Amazon Games had carried out various layoffs and closures in 2023therefore this initiative represents a novelty in pleasant contrast to the contraction seen so far, and comes alongside other similar initiatives in Eastern Europe such as the creation of the new Larian studio in Warsaw and the Elsewhere Entertainment team of Activision and Microsoft, in Poland.
