UPDATE: After several reports pointed out that the supposed purchase of EA by Amazon was not correct, USA Today updated their article to say that this morning’s report by its content partner at GLHF “violated our editorial standards regarding the use of unidentified and unvetted sources.” This was what was said about it:
“Earlier today, GLHF, a gaming/esports outlet and content partner of For The Win, posted a version of this story on our website that violated our editorial standards regarding the use of anonymous and uninvestigated sources. We have updated this story to remove all mention of those sources.”
Without a doubt a situation that got out of hand for GLHF and USA Today. It will be interesting what happened behind it, and how the newsroom reacted to subsequent reports.
ORIGINAL NOTE:
Since the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, several rumors have pointed out that EA it would be the next big company in the video game industry to be acquired by some high-profile company. On this occasion, It has been reported that Amazon will make this move, and the announcement would take place today.
According to sources of GLHF, Amazon would announce today its plans to buy EA for an unspecified amount. The Swedish media has mentioned that the main reason is to use the properties of this company, and convert them into series and movies for Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming platform. However, it seems that this has turned out to be uncertain.
Upon breaking the original rumor, CNBC contacted its own sources on the matter, noting that this is simply uncertain, and at the moment there are no plans within Amazon to buy from EA. This information was confirmed by BloombergTerminalwho have also mentioned that the original GLHF report is incorrect.

Although the possibility of EA being acquired in the future is not ruled out, with companies such as Apple and Disney as possible interested parties, at the moment it seems that those responsible for apex legends they will continue to work as they have for years. Hopefully soon a statement by EA or Amazon that manages to clarify and put an end to this issue.
On related topics, FIFA 23 it was sold for only $6 cents because of a mistake. Similarly, Battlefield 2042 will bring back a beloved feature.
Editor’s note:
Considering the big buyouts we’ve seen in recent years, it wouldn’t be unreasonable for the EA acquisition to eventually come to pass. What is most striking here is that it could be a company that does not have a great role as such in the video game industry, unlike Microsoft and Embracer Group.
