Technology entrepreneurs continue to demonstrate their power, occupying practically all positions in the billionaire index thanks, in part, to the increase in the shares of their companies. However, there are two European names that stand out among them and manage to become strong on this list, such as the Frenchman Bernard Arnault and the Spanish Amancio Ortega.
The first of them, Bernard Arnault, occupies fifth place in the great fortunes, with a wealth that reaches 181,000 million dollars, according to Bloomberg. This 2024 is not being a good year for the French businessman, who has seen LVMH sales fall for the first time since the pandemic in anticipation of a red session in Europe. Its results bring the luxury giant closer to the lowest levels of the year on the stock market, with a dozen experts cutting their valuations for the French firm’s shares. Proof of this is that this year, Arnault has lost $26.7 billion, making him the billionaire who has lost the most money.
For his part, Amancio Ortega, founder and owner of 59.2% of Inditex, is the second European with the greatest wealth and occupies twelfth place in terms of great wealth. Specifically, 116,000 million dollars. Without a doubt, 2024 is being a great year for the 88-year-old businessman, with dividends that will reach 2,845 million: half were collected in May and the other will be paid on November 4. It is a figure that is above the profits of 29 of the 35 companies that make up the Ibex-35. Apart from Inditex itself, only Santander, BBVA, Caixabank, Iberdrola and Repsol obtained greater profits in the last year than what Ortega is going to earn from his shares.
As for the rest of the list, Elon Musk continues to be number one of the richest, with 242 billion dollars. He is followed by: Jeff Bezos (212,000 million), Mark Zuckerberg (204,000 million), Larry Ellison (185,000), Bill Gates (162,000), Larry Page (148,000), Warren Buffett (147,000), Steve Ballmer (145,000), Sergey Brin ( 140,000), Jensen Huang (121,000), and Michael Dell (116,000). Of all of them, Americans, the only one who is not dedicated to technology is Warren Buffett, with his company Berkshire Hathaway.
