Supersport changes its face in 2022 and, with the new regulations, Ducati also arrives, making its debut in the 600 class starting next season. The Borgo Panigale company also finds Althea, who, after a two-year break from the world championship, returns and does so with a well-known combination. The collaboration between Genesio Bevilacqua’s team and Ducati had been a winner in Superbike, reaching the title with Carlos Checa in 2011.
For next season, however, Althea chooses Supersport and focuses everything on one of the most experienced drivers in the category: the Panigale V2 will be entrusted to Federico Caricasulo, now a veteran of the 600 class and a great protagonist especially in the last stages of the season. The beginning of 2021 had been decidedly complicated for the Fiamme Oro rider, who had never felt the right feeling with the GMT94 team, so much so that he left halfway to go to the Motoxracing team, where instead he seemed to have found the right atmosphere.
In 2022, however, Caricasulo will embark on a new adventure with Ducati together with Althea and will test the Panigale V2 in the next tests in January: “I am really happy with the opportunity that Genesio is offering me. It was an unexpected proposal that I accepted immediately because it is a winning project with a team that certainly needs no introduction and that I also followed as a fan. I like the idea of being the only rider on the team and I think it’s the best situation to aim for certain results. After five years with Yamaha in which I believe I have grown a lot, it is important for me to accept a new challenge that gives me the best motivation. I still have an unfinished business with this category since 2019 and my only goal is to improve the results I have already achieved “.
Genesio Bevilacqua, Althea General Manager, comments on his return to the world championship: “Althea did not need to return but I chose to do so because I believe that this Supersport is the category of the future. There are all the prerequisites for what has always been our only aspiration: to win by using our experience and our skills by playing with the best. This Supersport and its new regulations are truly an opportunity to relaunch the production derivatives. It seems made to test us. Competition is in our DNA and that’s why we want to be there “.
