The first nucleus of is reality 4 beds which start the Nemo Bologna Clinical Center at the Bellaria Hospital. In the Aula Magna of the Regional Palace, the first concrete step towards the realization of what will become, within the next 2 yearsa entire department dedicated exclusively to care and research on neuromuscular diseasesaccording to the consolidated multidisciplinary model of the Nemo clinical centersalready present in seven locations throughout the national territory.
At Bellaria – we read in a note – the process begins multidisciplinary management by the team that followed the training received in recent months from the experts of Nemo Clinical Centers. The most innovative aspect, in fact, is the team of clinicians and specialized operators integrated into a single department. At the moment, iprimi 4 beds are located in the Pneumology department (third floor Pavilion G of the hospital) and represent the first concrete step of a reorganization in the management of these complex pathologies. A project that will evolve into the first totally public healthcare facility, born from the experience of Nemo Centers That have demonstrated their effectiveness by taking care of 20 thousand families throughout Italy since 2008.
They are about 1There are 5 figures in the first group of professionals (between doctors and healthcare workers) who will collaborate to respond in an integrated way to complex care needs of patients with ALS, SMA, muscular dystrophies or ataxic syndromesdriven by Rocco Liguori, director of the Neurological Clinic Uoc And full professor of Neurology at the University of Bolognaaccording to which “the training that we began in recent months was the result of a precious and fruitful collaboration with the experts of the Nemo Centres. Our operators – he underlines – were able to see first-hand what it means to integrate expertise with a new model of care and we will continue in the coming months to compare and learn in a dynamic training. Putting the patient at the center of all our work is the challenging part for us, our north star”.
“The highly specialized and multidisciplinary treatment path, which will concentrate patients suffering from rare, partly genetic, neuromuscular diseases at the institute, represents a challenge and an opportunity for our researchers – highlights Raffaele Lodi, scientific director of the Irccs Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna – The creation of the center will promote the study of disease mechanisms through the most up-to-date knowledge and the latest technologies available. Furthermore, it will allow us to implement the evaluation of the effectiveness of innovative treatments to which individual patients can be safely subjected in the acute and chronic phases of the disease.”
From a structural point of view, the definitive location of Nemo Bologna – the note details – is part of the restructuring plan that theBellaria Hospital has foreseen with the valorization of Pnrr fundsaccording to 'Mission 6 – Health, for a more sustainable and safe hospital'. The project plans presented – and already shared with the patient associations AssiSla, Asamsi, Aism, Aisla, Aisa, Telethon and Uildm – provide that 2 of the 4 floors of Pavilion C under renovation will be dedicated entirely to Nemo. Over a thousand square meters for a hospitalization area with 14 beds: fully equipped spaces for moving the patient and welcoming his caregiver; clinics, waiting and reception areas and a 60m2 gym for motor rehabilitation.
“For all of us the Nemo Center Bologna it's not just an organizational change, but it's first and foremost an important cultural change – he claims Paolo Bordon, general director of the Local Health Authority of Bologna – It is a paradigm shift in caring and these first 4 beds are precious to allow us to start a new multidisciplinary model, and thus train ourselves in a method. This first step is even more important because we have also been recognized as a regional reference center for neuromuscular diseases. This achievement must push us to network the dissemination of knowledge between professionals to further improve care and assistance for patients.”
“For the Emilia Romagna region this experimentation in the context of rehabilitation hospitalizations for cases of neuromuscular diseases represents an experimentation and integrates with the activities already implemented – he declares Raffaele Donini, regional councilor for health policies – Our goal is to continue to ensure the best possible care for those who rely on our facilities and, also for this reason, we will carry out a prospective observational study, in close connection with the Nemo Clinical Center Program, for constant verification of the results “.
“The university strongly supports all initiatives, such as the meritorious ones of Nemo Clinical Centercapable of providing concrete answers to the complexity of patients' healthcare needs and the needs of their families – he points out the rector of the University of Bologna, Giovanni Molari – From this point of view, the university, also through the planning of its Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences, will not fail to provide its support by making available its ability to bring together professionals of the highest level in complementary disciplines, such as neurology, physiatry and pulmonology, contributing decisively to the research and development of innovative solutions for the main neuromuscular pathologies”.
“This day celebrates the beginning of a new journey for our neuromuscular community – he comments Alberto Fontana, president of the Nemo clinical centers – The project of Nemo Bologna it will soon become the physical place entirely managed by the public administration where professionals will be able to welcome our families, giving them the security of feeling at home. These first 4 beds mark the start of the change in the care experience and together we will protect them, because they are the precious laboratory where we can learn to build the integration of skills. I thank the institutions of this wonderful land of innovation for believing and investing in the possibility of making this journey happen.”
