For many Grands Prix, theAlpine was the seventh force on the track. Still, the former Renault is holding on to fifth place in the constructors’ standings. Ranking in which it has just stretched on the AlphaTauri, a much more competitive car but which – unlike Alpine – still does not know how to seize the opportunities that present themselves in front of it.
The ranking says Alpine-AlphaTauri 137-112: 25 points is a reassuring margin with two games to go of the World Cup, also because in Faenza – right now – it would not be enough to draw the French, who would be preferred for the victory of Esteban Ocon in Hungary.
It was at the Hungaroring and in Qatar that the Alpine built a large part of its ranking: of the 137 points, 62 (45%) arrived in these two races. Precisely, 37 in Mogyorod and 25 in Doha. The other 75 points were sampled in almost all the world championship events (the only zeros arrived in Bahrain and Austin). Enough to be in front of an AlphaTauri that with Pierre Gasly proved to be even the third force on Saturday, only to retreat dramatically on Sunday: the case of Losail is emblematic, with both cars that finished in Q3 and that they then slipped out of the points in the race.
