A few weeks after the start of the first Grand Prix of the 2022 season, the topic on the agenda in the circus chatter concerns the potential entry – starting from 2024 – of an eleventh team. The candidate would be there Andretti Global by Michael Andretti. A name – or rather, a surname – that needs no introduction in the world of motorsport. However, his ambitions were not received with particular enthusiasm by many parties. First of all the Federation, which appeared surprisingly cold in the face of the potential entry into the championship of one of the most important names in the American market, known and loved by millions of people.
Similar skepticism – not to say open hostility – came from the most influential and powerful team principal in the paddock, Toto Wolff. The Mercedes boss has effectively closed the door on the ambitious American project, opening the doors only to the possible entry of a manufacturer as the 11th team. Other teams, however, proved to be more open to the Andretti family. McLaren – via Andreas Seidl – commented favorably on the hypothesis of a new team on the grid, as did Alpine. In fact, Renault now seems destined to be the power unit supplier of Andretti Global if the arrival of the Americans from the Circus actually becomes a reality.
As reported by the site RaceFans.com, the CEO of the French team Laurent Rossi he hoped for the effective entry of the new team, also to move a ‘static’ environment like that of F1 teams. “I think I would welcome it if it was an attractive thing – explained Rossi – Andretti could have this potential because of all the discourse related to the United States. We’ll see what happens, but I think it would be nice – he concluded – it would also liven things up on the trackwhich is good. It’s best to move the hierarchies a bit every now and then“.
