Poker in sight
In 2023 Formula 1 witnessed the most dominant season in the history of the sport, with the Red Bull who took victory in 21 out of 22 races and Max Verstappen who reached the top step of the podium on 19 occasions. A devastating monologue that many fans hoped would at least be broken this year.
However, the response that is arriving in these days of pre-season testing directly from the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain goes in the opposite direction. The new RB20 already looks head and shoulders ahead of the competition and few are willing to bet against Verstappen winning a fourth consecutive title.
Alonso destroys the hopes of the 'anti-Red Bulls'
However, no one has expressed these concepts with greater clarity than Fernando Alonso. In the press conference the Spanish veteran from Aston Martin essentially admitted that he and all his colleagues are already on the grid perfectly aware of the type of season that awaits them.
“I don't have a crystal ball to know what other people are doing. Max is the world champion and Red Bull is dominating the sport. The concept [di macchina] that they presented this year is a surprise. At the moment we just have to observe them and see how they behave. 19 drivers in the paddock now think they will not win the championship“, the thoughts of the former Ferrari driver. In seven days in Bahrain we will know if these words will be immediately confirmed.
