Both out of Q3, however Alpine qualifying at Silverstone was a disappointment. Above all because Sebastian Vettel returned to the top ten, with an Aston Martin that at least since the days of Lance Stroll does not seem to be who knows what strength on this circuit, but above all George Russell, author of a masterpiece with Williams. The regret is above all for Fernando Alonso, which was excluded for 25 thousandths, which instead rewarded Lando Norris. These are the words of the Spaniard and teammate Esteban Ocon at the end of qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
2021 British GP Sprint Qualification: the starting grid
Fernando Alonso (P11, 1: 27.245): “It was difficult today, but I think we had potential to enter Q3. The traffic was quite difficult to manage and the pit exiting laps in Q2 were a bit messed up. It was a shame to be out of Q3, but this weekend we have to face a new format and therefore we will have another opportunity tomorrow to earn places on the grid until Sunday’s race. Let’s see what we can learn and improve in view of the debut of the Sprint Qualification. The atmosphere was great today and it really felt like running, I hope the fans enjoyed it“.
Esteban Ocon (P13, 1: 27.340): “Overall, I’m happy with today even if the result is slightly disappointing. I am happy to see that we are back on the right track and that we have made the most of the car. Thank you all to Enstone, Viry and the track for all their hard work over the past week (the French were given a new chassis, ed). Qualifying was going well until the last lap, when we had a messy out lap. It was a shame why we were fast enough for Q3 today. It is all to be decided tomorrow in Sprint qualifying“.
