2022 has finally arrived. If in Italy the advent of the new Formula 1 technical regulations is seen by all as the great opportunity for Ferrari to return to the top, in Spain the same is true for Fernando Alonso and for the ‘plan’ of the French Alpine. The team from beyond the Alps presented the new A522 – complete with a double livery – which will define the goodness or otherwise of the idea had by the two-time world champion from Oviedo to return to the Circus last year, after two seasons of absence. The Asturian had repeatedly defined 2021 as a “training” for this season, the one in which the new single-seaters should reduce the distances between the teams, giving the possibility even to teams previously ‘muddled’ in the center of the group to undermine the positions at the top.
Obviously all these are for the moment only suppositions, to be verified with the response of the track starting from the Barcelona tests. Alonso, however, appears extremely confident with respect to the work done by the Alpine men between Enstone and Viry-Chatillon. The winner of two editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will turn 41 in July, but he seems willing to continue in Formula 1 at least until the end of 2023. “Hopefully [la nuova monoposto] let us fight for podiums. Because if you fight for podiums every weekend, victory will come in the end. And if you fight for podiums and wins, then maybe next year you will be a title contender”Explained Alonso.
Words that know of renewal, for a rider who has his contract expiring at the end of this season. “The results must come step by step – added Alpine # 14 – and us we want to take the first step now. Renewal? To date I would say yes – declared the Spaniard on German TV RTL – I really feel the strength to continue. But I will only decide in the middle of the year “. Certainly the performance of the A522 will have a considerable weight in the assessments of the two-time world champion regarding his future.
