Double shot in the top-10
After the first round of the season and the third act of the world championship in Australia, theAston Martin he finished the Canadian Grand Prix for the third time in 2024 with both drivers in the pointsfor the best placing of this championship: while Lance Stroll he crossed the finish line at 7th place in front of his home crowd, Fernando Alonso he finished just ahead of his teammate, in sixth position. A positive collective performance for the British team, even more so if we consider the difficulties of the weather conditions, which pushed the team and the drivers to mount intermediate tires at the start and then switch to slicks, only to change the compounds later after a further precipitation and the subsequent drying of the runway.
Lonely race
A GP which therefore required maximum concentration from the drivers for all 70 laps scheduled, as confirmed by Alonso, who found elements that could be a good basis for the team on the occasion of the Spanish Grand Prix, the home race of the two-time world championship scheduled from 21 to 23 June: “It was a good race for the team, and finishing in sixth and seventh position in an extremely challenging race weekend is a good result – commented – I think that we can be more optimistic ahead of Barcelona. She was a lonely race for me, despite the mixed weather conditions. There wasn’t much to do with the top five cars in front of us, because they were a bit too fast today and there wasn’t much threat behind us. Was stressful with changing conditions, we had to avoid making mistakes and change tires at the right time. The most important thing is that we brought both cars home and got double points for the team.”
GP with bated breath
Lance Stroll was also happy with the outcome and his performance over the weekend and did not betray his goal of bringing home a good result in the GP he most awaited: “I am very satisfied with our performance today – declared the Canadian – it was a difficult race, one of the most difficult that I remember, and the changing conditions kept us on the edge of our seats, but we handled them well. The first stint was all about tire management, especially as the track started to dry, and then we managed to pit for another set of Intermediates under the Safety Car for the rainy second lap. We considered the switch to the Hard compound well and maintained the track while the others struggled. The characteristics of this circuit certainly suit our car, but we did well to stay focused and make the most of the opportunities presented to us.”
