Today, more and more romantic relationships are channeled through dating apps. The success of these networks is based on the powerful algorithms that, in a few seconds, they analyze the possible coincidences that are established between two strangers.
An international study of Kaspersky on the impact of technology on cell-mediated relationships, revealed that the majority of users positively perceive the role of smart algorithms in dating services. What is the opinion of the Argentines?
More than half (61%) of respondents in the region agree that dating apps, in general, have made the process of finding a partner much easier: 48% of Argentines and 67% of Brazilians.
“Technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), make searching more accurate, faster, and easier. They minimize risks. And that’s important because dating apps have aim to find the perfect partner. This is why we are so willing to let AI help us, as it does valuable pre-work, right up to the first encounter, ”reflects David Jacoby, security researcher at Kaspersky.

Additionally, 45% of the region stated that they would only meet with people recommended by the algorithm. This was also stated by 35% of Argentines, 48% from Brazilians, 45% from Chileans and 53% from Peruvians.
Online dating operates in a similar way, as different apps use smart algorithms to help people find a partner and recommend compatible profiles.
The merit of these softwares is to analyze the interests, preferences and swipes of users, to Recommend suitable candidates based on their tastes.

In June 2021, Kaspersky commissioned Sapio to conduct an online survey of more than 18,000 respondents in 27 countries to explore the role of dating apps and the current state of technology and relationships.
Fear of deception
Users of these applications, particularly young people between the ages of 18 and 24, share personally identifiable information (53% share their real name) and 25% of people worldwide link social media accounts to their profiles.
In fact, 7% explicitly use dating apps to promote your social media accounts. The result is that 65% are concerned about being scammed on these apps, while 15% reported that they have already been cheated.

“The results of our research show that the introduction of AI in dating applications is positively perceived by many people and that this can make it easier for many people to find a suitable partner. At the same time, despite the advantages and possibilities of the services of appointments, you always have to be vigilant and remember that we cannot know for sure who is on the other side of the screen“says Jacoby.
Among the limitations that this system exhibits is not to provide full guarantees if the connection between the parties will be genuine or fictitious, if the person is interested or just wants to steal information.
That can never be truly deciphered by AI and its recommendations. You will also not be able to predict how that person behaves and what their intentions are, as it is based on the uploaded data.
“That is why artificial intelligence and love do not go hand in hand only at first glance. Algorithms may not be capable of feeling, but they enable relationships that involve very personal qualities, like empathy, openness, and emotional stability“, comment the therapists Birgitt Hölzel and Stefan Ruzas, of the Liebling + Schatz office in Munich.
