The special plan prepared by the Madrid City Council to stop tourist apartments will prohibit their opening and operation in buildings where there are long-term residents, which are located in the heart of the city. This was announced this Tuesday by the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, in response to a question from Rita Maestre about the effectiveness of his measures to prevent the proliferation of this type of business.
“Housing for Tourist Use (VUT) scattered in communities of owners in the area of AP001 will be prohibited,” said the councilor, delimiting the action to the limits of what would be known as central almond and that covers the districts of Centro, Chamberí, Salamanca, Retiro and part of Arganzuela and Moncloa.
The ban, which will be approved “within two weeks,” seeks to “generate more housing in the center of Madrid” and also “definitively regulate” the VUT, according to Almeida, who detailed two other important measures that have not been approved until now. they had finalized.
The new regulation, which will be called the Special Plan for the Protection of the Residential Environment, will also allow “the transformation of residential buildings for private use into residential buildings in the center of Madrid, as long as they are intended for affordable housing,” he continued detailing. .
Finally, the new standard will allow increasing buildability in buildings whose use is other than residential, to transform them into residential properties.
