José Luis Martínez-Almeida does not rule out again to the municipal elections after this mandate. Although on some occasion he had commented, without assuming commitments, that 8 years seemed enough, this Thursday has been much more elusive when he has been asked for it by the director of ABC, Julián Quirós, during the ABC forum that has gathered the councilor of The capital and the mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá. “Party by match,” said the first Madrid mayor.
As graphically pointed out, “a year ago I was not married and was not going to be a father,” indicating that the uncertainty about the future is something consubstantial to human life and, obviously, also to politics. Therefore, he understands that it is still soon to make future plans about whether or not to present the elections in 2027.

The mayors of Valencia and Madrid have a lot in common, in addition to the friendship that unites them. Among other issues, a commercial and logistics axis that brings the products directly from Italy to the port of Valencia by boat and from there, they are sent to Madrid by train. An axis that is working very efficiently and that “avoids about 16,000 trucks a year between the two cities,” Martínez-Almeida pointed out. And an idea that “should extend to Portugal,” he has suggested.
Another of the issues addressed in both cities are tourist floors. In the case of Madrid, Martínez-Almeida recalled that tourism is “fundamental” in the Spanish and Madrid economy. And regarding tourism housing, he acknowledged that in Madrid “it is illegal in 99 percent.”
Therefore, and to respect neighborhood coexistence, politics in the capital proposes “regulation, not just prohibition.” Among other measures, a moratorium is raised in their new regulations in the granting of licenses, multiplying the amount of sanctions, and creating an official record of these homes. They want them to stop working in owners communities, and focus on exclusive buildings.
