For the young man who lost his grandfather, the authorities could do something to invite citizens to go up to the upper floors of the houses.
Between victims offlood in the Marche there is also mr Fernando Olivi80 years of Pianello of Ostraone of the most affected municipalities.
One week after the terrible event, Olivi’s nephew, Andrea Chiappettagave an interview to Fanpage where he retraced the terrible moments of that evening denouncing the fact that no one had warned them of an event of that magnitude.
“Nobody warned us, unfortunately this is the basic data. There was no one, between the municipality, inspectors, the Region and the Civil Protection, who alerted us, not even a sound that warned us of the emergency to go up to the upper floors. They had time because the water here comes from the mountain and gradually moves towards the sea. We are in Pianella di Ostra, almost halfway, about 10 kilometers from Senigallia. If we consider that the Misa base is towards Arcevia, they have had time, but there has been none of this.”- said the 32-year-old.
“That day my instinct led me to immediately think of my grandfather, who lived on the ground floor. He was submerged by the water, which passed the ceiling of his house. I hope someone refutes the politicians’ words. It is not true that it was an unpredictable event linked to climate change. For me it is negligence and carelessness, first of all, on the part of the Municipality. All this must lead to the resignation of those responsible, making mea culpa ” – the complaint of the young man who also told of having tried in vain to help his grandfather.
“I didn’t have a helmet, there was no light and with the deafening sound of the water I turned around hoping that someone would come to help us. I also appealed to social media, in addition to calling the police. I hope it sheds light on what happened, because the alert was not given, my heart closes”- his story.
In short, the pain of not being able to do anything to save his grandfather’s life is really strong.
