The 2021 world championship was the first in the turbo-hybrid history of Formula 1 not to celebrate the success of a driver Mercedes. Since this new era began, in 2014, Lewis Hamilton has in fact won all the world championships reserved for drivers, with the exception of 2016 – in which Nico Rosberg won – and in fact last season, which saw the sensational victory of Max Verstappen. From the constructors point of view, however, the German house has always established itself in all championships from 2014 to today, always confirming the queen of turbo-hybrid F1. However, with the advent of the 2022, the Circus is about to face a new and important technical parenthesis, with the introduction of a new regulation that could shuffle the cards on the table.
In this way, therefore, the dominance of Mercedes could seriously run the risk of ending in the face of an aerodynamic revolution which, at the same time, could prove many F1 fans right. The latter, in fact, believe that the successes of the Brackley team were also dictated by a good component of luck, such as to bring Silver arrows at a much higher level than the competition. An aspect on which, of course, he disagrees in the slightest James Allison, Technical Director of Mercedes. The English engineer spoke in a video released by the team on its official channel YouTube, explained the main innovations of the new technical standards, highlighting a theme he particularly cares about: “It is not an exclusive feature of Mercedes to be enthusiastic about a regulation – he has declared – but it’s something I can talk about with the personal experience of being part of this team, and we really like it when new regulations arrive. We see it as an opportunity to show that we haven’t just been lucky over the years. We have not stumbled upon some sort of magic formula that has allowed us to have some divine right to have been dominant in all these last seasons ”.
