El Paso.- A 17-year-old Horizon City man faces murder and other charges after an early morning chase with Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers on Friday, Oct. 4, leading to a pileup in the Upper Valley, Texas. El Paso, the DPS reported.
The driver – whose identity and photos have not been revealed – and five migrants who were inside the car were treated at an area hospital for minor injuries. The woman driving the second vehicle died at UMC. Authorities have not yet revealed his identity, as they are waiting to notify his next of kin.
At approximately 8 a.m. Friday, the Texas Highway Patrol, assisted by DPS special agents, attempted to stop a vehicle on Artcraft Road. According to DPS, the vehicle was going to be stopped for an equipment violation and being involved in a possible human trafficking incident.
The driver briefly fled, ran a red light, sideswiped two other vehicles and then collided with another vehicle at Artcraft and Upper Valley Road as the trooper approached the vehicle, according to DPS.
“The 17-year-old Horizon City man, who was driving the red Charger, will be charged with murder, human trafficking and evading arrest with a vehicle,” a Texas DPS spokesperson explained.
