FC Barcelona made the return of the Brazilian right-back official last night after his departure in 2016. He will stay until the end of this season, according to the official statement from the club itself.
Daniel Alves and the Barça team rejoin their paths after they separated more than five years ago. He arrives as a free agent after having rescinded his contract with Sao Paulo weeks ago. The club has issued a statement in which it explains the conditions of the return as follows:
“FC Barcelona and Dani Alves have reached an agreement in principle to join the first soccer team for the remainder of this season. The Brazilian player will join training next week, but will not be able to make his debut until January. Soon the club will inform the details of his presentation as a new player of the first football team “.
Although the official statement of the club indicates that the agreement is for these next months, in order to play between January and June once it is registered and has recovered the rhythm in training, Fabrizio Romano assures that there is a clause in the contract that would allow to extend the link until 2023.
The one from Juazeiro returns to the place where, between 2008 and 2016, he won 23 of his 46 titles as a professional footballer. Three editions of the Champions League, six of LaLiga, five of the Copa del Rey, five of the Spanish Super Cup, three of the Club World Cup and three of the European Super Cup left an idyll for both.
Now he returns in a very different situation, having left the club by going through the back door with President Josep Maria Bartomeu at the helm in his early years. The return of Joan Laporta, who signed him from Sevilla, and Xavi Hernández, with whom he shared a dressing room for seven seasons, have helped the Brazilian have a second chance to leave through the big door.
